Changing the spark plugs (Thanks to Zydeco)
here is my tool...NOTE: 3 extensions and a 5/8 Spark
plug adapter....
if you have an old or other wise sub-standard adapter - do yourself a favor...
get a New one with grip... someone said it's a magnet inside....looked like
rubber to me...
I won't post pictures of me accessing plugs 1 thru 5 (passenger side) because
they were fairly easy to get to .... I only had to remove the PCV hose... and I
was changing the valve anyway...
But number 6 (near the intake manifold - driver's side)
Those 3 extensions....
and so I was feelin lucky and figured "Hey... if I can fit it in..."
so I went to work on #4 plug...Problem - getting the wire off the plug...
Solution: and I can only vouch for MY experience - proceed with caution - Needle
nose pliers and something with a hook at the end - I used a bungee fastener
cord.
With a little tustle I was able to free the wire from the plug (pop!) and I was
so relieved - I forgot to snap a picture....
Two thing you may want to do...
1) get a mechanic to blow some compressed air in the plug area to get the dust
out
2) Put Anti- Seizing gel on the plug threads and connector gel on the cermic of
the plug so next time you won't have as much a hassle
Here is a pict of the old -
...and of the new -
I don't know if it's because the plugs are new... or because they are Iridiums...
But acceleration has improved DRAMATICALLY.... much smoother....next PCV hose
(noticed a split starting) , Fuel filter, differential, and AC....
The distributor Cap and Rotor should be replaced with
the plugs...
Old and New.... don't forget to change the Distributor Rotor as welll
(underneath the cap). Once you remove the cap (2 screws diagnal from each other)
the rotor is underneath (one screw to remove it)
