Power window amp (Thanks to Onevia)
This is to troubleshoot the window amp (white box) that is connected to the window motor and power window switches.With the door panel off you can bypass the 'power window amp', or
so it's called, and test the motor directly. If the motor is
still good you can roll the window back up. Since you will have
the door panel off, why not do some tests while your at it and
find the problem. A multimeter is good to have, but not required.
Remove the door panel
I beleive there is a how-to someplace on the forum
Here's the bare door
Make sure the key is in the 'Off' position
Testing the motor by bypassing the power window amp module:
You'll need to make 2 wire jumpers
Use at least 14 gauge wire and strip the ends
Disconnect the window amp harness connector
The power window switch was already disconnected during removal of the door panel
The other all white connector is for the power mirrors
Insert the jumpers into the connectors like this
Jump the Blue wire on the window amp harness connector to the
Black/White wire on the power window switch harness connector
Next, jump the White wire on the window amp harness connector to the
Black wire on the power window switch connector
Double check that none of your jumpers are shorted
Turn the key to the 'On' position
You mentioned that the passenger side works
This verifies that power is getting to the switch harness, sort of
If the motor is good the window will move down
You'll need to switch the wires around to raise the window
Jumper Summary:
Lower Window
Switch connector_____Amp connector
Black/White<------------>Blue
Black<-------------------->White
Raise Window
Switch connector_____Amp connector
Black/White<------------>White
Black<-------------------->Blue
If the motor works, test the window amp
Plug the window switch back in
Plug the window amp back in
Operate the switch either Up or Down
You should here the amp module clicking
If it clicks in both Up and Down, this rules out the window switch and is good
The amp is having problems
If it doesn't click, either the switch or amp is bad
To rule out the amp, jumper the Blue/Black wire or the Blue/White wire
on the switch harness to the Black
wire on the switch harness.
If the window operates, the switch is having problems
