I saw this article and had to share. I have the original Option magazine article (90s/2000s), but I couldn’t translate anywhere near the way Park does.

This Leopard owner, like many, were influenced by Abunai Deka. From what the article, this is his 4th leopard… also not uncommon for the leopard community members.
What is interesting is that he swapped in an RB20det. It was an XJ-II based leopard with R32 transplanted items.
This car looks really cool and I do love the lowered stance.

“One point of concern is the F31’s characteristic to spin during a drift because of its long wheelbase. However, the rear suspension is independent and has lower traction than the multilink type. “This isn’t a car that can drift easily, its difficult to maintain control.” says the owner. However, for such an unorthodox drift machine, the challenge is worth it.”

“Aftermarket front tension rods have been installed to support drift use. The front half of the rod takes the same shape as many Skyline models but the attachment on the body side is different so again specialized parts are needed. Parts like this are hard to come by and therefore pricey. The tension rods from an S13 can be used by replacing the bracket with a late model one allowing straightforward exchange. Because this model part is common in the drift world, it can easily be found. A wide variety of options are available too such as different lengths, adjustment types and pillow types.”

“For example, an RB20DET swap becomes an issue. Since the F31 only came equipped with VG engine, mounting to a straight 6 RB requires a lot of work. First, we must replace the front suspension member with that of a C33. Then since the normal steering rack and pump cannot be used, both need to be swapped for that of an R32. The transmission member also must be made one-off from an R32.”

“Although it has the same platform, the radiator core support is vastly different from the R31. Since the V6 is equipped from factory, the F31’s placement is further back and the length of the engine bay is shorter. To house a straight 6 RB, you need to do some work here as well. The radiator was replaced with a Koyo unit. Two electric fans are used to improve cooling performance, one in front of the radiator and another pulling air from the rear.”

“On the interior, an Auto Gauge tach and Timex boost meter are set on the steering column. “Originally, I didn’t want to put a tach but changing from VG to RB changed the pulse so I couldn’t alter the factory meter.” says the owner. Water/oil temp and hydraulic gauges by K’s are set up in the upper compartment of the glove box.”

“The owner also points out the use of a period correct Trust TVVC in place rather than a modern electronic boost control system. “You can tell by the plate with the TRUST logo on the dial”.”
